BY THE COOKIE MONSTER/DUAL FORMAT
{A{5 I know I'm always complaining about
Sky's subscription packages. But at
last I have evidence that they are a
bunch of conning twats.
Recently, whilst reading a copy of
either Satellite Times or Satellite TV
Europe (I can't remember which) I saw
a short article which proved all my
worst fears.
I had been wondering since the start
of the new year when VH1 and Nick At
Nite were going to start. I waited
and waited. I would check all the
satellite press, check all teletext
systems and even read all the bumf
that came through the post from Sky.
I then noticed something. In all this
stuff there was no mention of VH1 or
Nick At Nite. When they were
mentioned, they just said that they
were starting soon.
Then I got very suspicious. The TV
advert for the multi-channels was on
TV and I noticed one thing. The
diagram with the little screens that
all scrambled when the announcer was
talking about subscriptions, there
wasn't one for VH1 or Nick At Nite.
No talk of them, no logo with all the
pthers, not even a blank space where
it should be.
{tb{A{5The new leaflets saying how you could
watch Sky free for 30 days, this does
mention the channels and says that
they will start later this year.
Well, people who take advantage of
this offer will probably subscribe and
will be paying Sky their hard earned
money before they realise that they
have been conned.
{C{6 WHAT AM I ON ABOUT ?
{A{5Well, I'm talking about Sky's Multi
Channel 2 Package. Yes, later this
year there will be a seconds multi
package which will almost definitely
consist of Sky Sports 2, VH1, The
Sci-Fi Channel, The Travel Channel
among other channels that will launch
on Astra 1D. Nick At Nite is still
supposed to be going on after
Nickelodean. The only problem is that
TV Asia have that transponder at that
time. Whether they'll sort it out or
not, no one knows. But VH1 is
supposed to take one of the current
MTV transponders (transponder 22) but
CMTE have also bid for this and look
set to get it. So CMTE will be on
Astra 24 hours a day and what will
share Discovery's transponder is a
mystery.
But people have paid for the multi
channels including VH1. And if we
don't get it then Sky have broken a
contract and, in theory, we could sue.
They'll probably have a claus in the
contract that says they have the right
to change the line up but people
should take notice of this incident
and shouldn't be so trusting in the
future.
